Féile Cool for Cats!
The 2007 Féile na nGael was held in Kilkenny and Carlow and it was a brilliant festival for all who took part. It’s like a mini All-Ireland for kids into hurling, camogie and handball. The tournament was really well organised and the standard was really high The highlight was the colourful parade of 140 underage teams as young camogie, handball and hurling stars marched through the streets of Kilkenny City on the Friday evening.
It was a great weekend for Castleknock who were crowned All-Ireland Féile na nGael champions following a 4-8 to 0-3 victory over Limerick’s Ahane in the Division 1 final at Nowlan Park. It was some achievement as the club was only formed nine years ago.
There was also joy for Castletowngeoghegan of Westmeath, who defeated St John’s of Antrim by 0-21 to 0-6 to take the Division 2 title. Aenghus Clarke, whose brother Joe is a member of the Westmeath senior hurling team, was top-scorer for the winners with 0-12.
The Cats were not to be outdone either with them winning their fair share of games over the weekend. Three of the finals were contested by local sides with Bennettsbridge defeating Kilmacow in the Division 3 decider and Windgap proving too strong for Sliverue, while GAA president Nickey Brennan’s native club Conahy Shamrocks accounted for Fenians.
The Division 1 Camogie final was an all-Galway affair which resulted in a 2-8 to 1-3 victory for Sarsfields over Milford.

Féile na nGael Div 1 Hurling Final
Castleknock (Dublin) 4-08 Ahane (Limerick) 0-03
A big crowd turned out at Nowlan Park in Kilkenny on Sunday 17th June for the Féile na nGael Division 1 Hurling final. The final between Castleknock from Dublin and Limerick’s Ahane was a cracking match with loads of great individual performances.
Castleknock got off to a solid start with three well taken points from Kieran Kilkenny but Ahane battled back and very nearly snatched a goal. The Limerick lads defended well but in the 15th minute John Conroy scored a top goal for Castleknock after some great work down the left flank. Kieran Kilkenny and captain Shane Boland chipped in with more points to leave the scores at 1-06 to 0-00 in Castleknock’s favour at half-time.
In the second half Castleknock were awesome and really took the game to Ahane. John Conroy and Andrew Hayes added 3 more goals between them for the Dubs. Ahane had no answer and only scored 3 points in the second half through Dan Morrissey to leave the scores at full-time reading; Castleknock 4-08 Ahane 0-03.
Castleknock’s Kieran Kilkenny was the Cúl4kidz “Kid of the Match”, scoring a total of 6 points and setting up loads of scores on a day he wont forget too easily. Well done to Castleknock and three cheers to Ahane!
Super Sarsfields!
Féile na nGael Div 1 Camogie Final
Sarsfields 2-08 Milford 1-03
It was a brilliant day for all the girls at the Féile na nGael in Kilkenny and none more so than the girls from the Sarsfields in Galway. They ran out winners of the Division 1 Camogie final in a pulsating final against Cork’s Milford under the sun at Nowlan Park. Two first half goals from full-forward Orlaith McGrath were crucial as the Galway side led 2-2 to 0-1 at the break, the Cork point coming from Sarah O'Flaherty.
The second half would prove to be a lot closer. Milford took the game to the Galway champions but Tara Kenny and Rachel Spellman defended well for the Tribesgirls. A great goal from
Milford’s Rebecca Sheehy set the game up for a big finish but with the three McGrath sisters playing brilliantly for Sarsfields they had no answer in the end.
The final score; Sarsfields 2-08 Milford 1-03 - victory for the Galway Girls.
The Corn Uí Phuirsúil trophy was awarded to the Sarsfields captain Tara Kenny to a big roar!
Sarsfields (2-02) 2-08: Orlaith McGrath 2-2, Clodagh McGrath 0-4, Niamh McGrath 0-2 (0-2f). Milford (0-01) 1-03: R Sheehy 1-0, S O'Flaherty 0-2, L O' Flynn 0-1.

Ratoath’s Féile Journey!
Ratoath Camogie Club U-14 girls set out to the Féile with high hopes after their narrow defeat last year to Sarsfields of Cork. This year, the team had a great hunger and desire to succeed. They won their first two matches against their hosts Carlow and the Emeralds club from Kilkenny. They next defeated Castleblayney from Monaghan in a scoreline of 0-0 to 3-3. The semi-final against Mayo’s Na Brídeoga was a real test but a great goal from Adrienne McCann set them up for a brilliant victory by 0-2 to 4-1.
Next up was a combined Kerry team in the final in the O’Loughlin Gaels’ pitch in Kilkenny. It was a very close game but goals from superstar Adrienne McCann and Karen McCabe gave Ratoath the edge. The final score was 3-2 to 2-0 and there was a big cheer when Katie King raised the Lár Tire Trophy aloft. It was a first for the Royal County as they became the first Meath team to win an All-Ireland Camogie title. Well done to them!
