Angela Casey is one of the top players on the ladies football scene. She had the honour of captaining Laois to All-Ireland glory back in 2002 stopping Mayo from getting a four-in-a-row in the process. It was a nail-biting final as Laois won the game with a last-minute Mary Kirwan free which sailed over the bar just before the hooter sounded.

Angela was also part of the team that went on to win the National League title in 2003 and is looking forward to another great year in the blue and white. There are some great young players coming through the ranks and she is confident that it won’t be long before the O’Moore ladies are back in Croker.

What advice would you give to young players?
Always be committed, in training and when playing games, and never give up.

Is it difficult to balance your studies with football?
It’s not really, cos i enjoy playing football and anyway it’s a break away from the studies.

What was your greatest moment in Gaelic Football?
When we won the All-Ireland in 2002 and brought the cup back to Laois. That was the best feeling!

Which player do you admire most?

Mary O’Donnell from Waterford.

Who was the toughest opponent you ever came up against?
I would have to say Kerry’s Kacey O’Driscoll.

Who was your childhood hero?
My sister Mary has been a great inspiration and she has helped me become the player I am today.

Cúl Fact
Football definitely runs in the family. Angela has often lined out for Laois with her sister Mary and cousin Clare on the same team.
