Eoin Mulligan, the young Tyrone tyro has been threatening to dominate a summer for several years now and suddenly he finds himself just one game away from
being part of the first ever team from the red-hand county to lift Sam Maguire.
The peroxide blonde hairstyle certainly helps him stand out from the crowd but the rise of the talented Cookstown forward has certainly taken the weight of responsibility off Peter Canavan’s broad shoulders. Mulligan’s lethal scoring ability has helped Tyrone’s march to their second successive league title and also the Ulster crown this year.
He is no stranger to success as he was a vital component in the counties underage success over recent years, this includes an All-Ireland winners medals at minor and under-21. One of his greatest moments to date was when he scored the deciding goal in the ’98 minor final against Laois at Croke Park.
In the aftermath of the semi-final victory over Kerry, Mulligan felt that many of the young players from these teams came of age: “Everybody talks about this great young Tyrone side but I think today we grew up.” Thanks to his dynamic impact this year Tyrone have finally made it back to an All-Ireland final for the first time since 1995. Now the next task is whether Mulligan can inspire his team to victory on the biggest stage of all.
