BRADLEY BUNCH!
In his first year with Derry Eoin Bradley suffered a terrible leg break that saw him on the sidelines for 13 months. He came back for the 2005 season stronger than ever, and in the last couple of years has become a key player for the Oak Leaf County. In 2006, Bradley was named an Ulster All-Star as he continued to build on his potential. No longer known as just, Paddy Bradley’s little brother, Eoin has pace to burn and shares the same lethal left foot as his Big Bro. This combination has seen Bradley establish himself as one of the most feared attackers in the game and his performances in this year’s National League, scoring 18 points in total, gives Derry fans a lot to look forward to as they go in search of their first Sam Maguire since 1993.
What’s it like playing with your big brother?
He keeps me straight and used to give me plenty of advice on the pitch to help me. Even still, he shouts and roars at me from time to time, but it’s good to have him there.
Derry seem to do well in the League, will you hope to bring this into the Championship?
Yeah, we’ve been good in the League for the last two years but in the Championship we didn’t do well enough. The players know this and want to do better to prove that we are a Championship side.
What has been your greatest moment in sport?
Winning the Derry Club Championship in 2007 with Glenullin was the best.
Which is the toughest team you have faced?
I would have to say Armagh in 2005. They had lads like Francie Bellew and Aidan O’Rourke. You knew all about it when you were playing them, they hit hard.
Who was your toughest ever opponent?
Probably Sean Marty Lockhart, he never lets you out of his sight!
Which players do you admire the most?
The two I admire most are Patrick and Colm Cooper. Forwards get recognised more and over the past seven or eight years they have been the best in my opinion.
Who was your childhood sporting hero?
Anthony Tohill, and when I was younger, Joe Brolly as a forward. Also Dermot McNicholl from my club was another hero.
What club do you play for and who are your biggest rivals?
I play with Glenullin and the local derby would be against Kilrea every year. Overall, ourselves and Ballinderry would be the two top teams so one of us is always competing for the Championship.
Do you have any superstitions?
I’m not sure. I always eat at least three hours before a game and wear the same pair of black socks under my proper pair.
How do you balance your job and football?
I’m lucky enough in that I work for my da, when you need to get a day off to rest after a game there is no trouble. It’s nearly like having another job, playing inter-county football. You are away three nights a week and maybe at the weekend playing games.
What’s the most important skill in your opinion?
It’s not so much a skill but it’s just to work hard, simple as that.
What advice would you give to young players coming through the ranks?
Listen to your coaches and be prepared to work hard and remember it’s a team game. It takes 15 players to win a game. No matter how good you are no one man can win a match.
