The year 2003 has been a brilliant one for Limerick camogie star Eileen O’Brien. Not only did she win her 3rd All-Ireland Club Championship with her club Granagh-Ballingarry but she was also picked on the All-Star camogie team at half forward, something that she is dead proud of.

Even though she lost out to Tipperary in this year’s All-Ireland semi-final she feels that Limerick camogie has a great future with a young vibrant side that has a lot more to offer.

What advice would you give to young players?
Train hard and practise when you get a chance and always listen to your
coach’s advice.

What was your best moment in Camogie?
Without a doubt, it was winning the All-Ireland Senior Club Championship with Granagh-Ballingarry for the first time back in 1998. Even though we’ve won it two times since, the first time was certainly the sweetest.

Who was your toughest opponent?
It would have to be Ciara Gaynor, the star half-back for Tipperary.

Who was your childhood hero?
DJ Carey was my hero.

Do you play any other sports?
I played a little football for a while but I now concentrate totally on my camogie.

How do you juggle your studies and camogie?
There is plenty of time for training as camogie plays a big part in college life and when you are under pressure with exams you can ease up on the training. There is a good understanding between the players and the mentors.

What does the future hold for Limerick camogie?
We are the team for the future with an average age of 21 years, so the other counties will have to watch out!
