Still only 24, Tipperary sharp-shooter Eimear McDonnell is no stranger to
All-Ireland success. Since first picking up a hurley at the age of 14, she has
become one of camogie’s most dangerous forwards, with the ability to pick off scores from any angle.

Eimear, a niece of Cork football boss Billy Morgan, is a top class forward with a blend of skill and speed. In 2001, she scored 1-2 in Tipperary’s All-Ireland final win and she was also picked as the RTE ‘Player of the Match’.

This year, she plays in her seventh successive All-Ireland final, some achievement for a player so young! A hard fought semi-final victory over a rising Wexford team, set them up for another All-Ireland showdown. Eimear got the Premier County off to a perfect start in that game as she swept home Tipp’s goal after just 30 seconds. She later added two more points to help her team get past a brave Model County in a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-8 and set up a repeat encounter with arch rivals Cork.

What has been your greatest moment in sport?
Winning the All-Ireland's with Tipperary. I can’t single one out but I guess the first one was really special. I also won schools competitions in secondary school which I really enjoyed.

Who have been your toughest opponents?
I think marking the Tipp backs in training is the toughest. Of course other counties also have talented backs, like Cork and Wexford. But some of our own defenders, Una O’Dwyer and Suzanne Kelly, can be very hard to get past.

Which player do you admire the most?
It would have to be our own Una O’Dwyer, a fantastic player.

What are your hopes for the future?
To continue being as successful as we can be and to play to our potential. Of course we want to continue winning All-Ireland's but I also would like to win a County Championship with my club Duharra.

What advice would you give to young players?
Practice all the time. Make sure you have a hurley in your hand every day and try to enjoy it as much as you can.
