The GAA and the VHI have teamed up to bring you the best summer camps ever. They are the Vhi Cúl Camps and give 80,000 kids the best coaching in Hurling, Camogie and Gaelic Football. The camps are run throughout the summer from Monday to Friday, 10.00am to 2.30pm, in all 32 counties and even in New york, Boston and Coventry which is cool for overseas GAA kids.

You will get training from top coaches, have loads of exercise and make new friends. Everyone will also get a full set of playing gear; including jersey, togs, socks and a knapsack for taking part.

These camps are the best around because they will be all about "fun" and "taking part", giving all kids the chance to play whatever their level of ability. Playing not winning is the aim of the game and teamwork is key to all camp activities.

MORE ABOUT THE VHI CÚL CAMPS

A record 80,000 kids attended the Vhi Cúl Camps in 2007. Despite the horrible weather, 5,000 more participants became happy Cúl campers as the Vhi Cúl Camps continued to grow from strength to strength in its second year. The camps are totally cool cos they encourage primary school children between the ages of 7 and 13, to learn and develop sporting and life-skills by taking part in Gaelic Games in a fun environment.

We love the Cúl Camps cos they have some great ideas. This year they ran a competition to find Ireland's Cúlest Coach and it was a big success. Miriam Dalton, from Abbeyleix GAA Club in Co Laois, won the prize as the first Vhi Cúlest Coach.

Jennifer Cass (age 9) also from Abbeyleix nominated Miriam for being "kind, helpful and fun during the week". The search for Ireland’s Cúlest coach saw over 2000 entries from children nationwide, highlighting why they believed their coach was the Cúlest. Miriam received two tickets for the All Ireland
Football final while Jennifer won a holiday worth €4000 for herself and her family. Well done to both of them!

12 Vhi Cúl Camp Ambassadors also visited camps nationwide, giving tips to children on how to improve their game and offering the children a unique opportunity to ask them individual questions on their sport. Some of the top stars involved were Kilkenny’s Jackie Tyrrell and Cork’s Cathal Naughton.

2008 will see the expansion of the Vhi/GAA Cúl Camps to further destinations abroad. A total of 22 camps will be held outside Ireland, with 4 camps in Canada, 4 in Europe, 5 in the UK and 9 in North America. Gaelic Park and Rocklands Grounds in New York and the Irish Centre in Canton, Boston, will be among the venues for the US Vhi/GAA Cúl Camps where over 300 children are expected to participate under the direction of 15 coaches.
