Céim Ar Aghaidh contains books, DVDs, worksheets and a teachers manual so why not ask you reacher about it? All the material is available at www.ceim.gaa.ie and there is also some extra video clips and pupil podcasts at www.rte.ie/gaa
THE WORLD OF GAELIC GAMES
The World of Gaelic Games is new dual language book telling the stories of kids from all over the world who play Gaelic Games. They tell, in their own words, their experiences of coming to Ireland and why they chose hurling Gaelic football, camogie or handball as their favourite games. The stories are in both English and their own language.

The books will be sent out to schools in September 2008 and they are free.
The stories are also available to view at http://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/.
Here is one of the kids from the book telling their story;

ZIAUEL HOQUE
Bangladesh and Kerry
My name is Ziauel Hoque. I was born in Bangladesh and I lived in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh until I came to Ireland in October 2003 and I now live in Killarney,
Co Kerry. In Bangladesh I played soccer with plastic bottles and some cricket. Bangladesh is much warmer than Ireland, you could even wear a t-shirt and shorts in winter. The problem was that we didn’t have much water, oil or food.

The Bangladesh flag
When I first came to Ireland I started playing football with Killarney Legion GAA club and with my school. We train every week and play matches every second week. My favourite players are Paul Galvin and Declan O’Sullivan.
GET ACTIVE WITH CÉIM AR AGHAIDH!
Included in the Céim Ar Aghaidh pack is the "My Active Body" book which helps you make healthy decisions when you are eating.

Eithne Branagan, a 6th Class pupil in Scoil Mhuire, Sandymount in Dublin 4 reviewed the book for us. Here’s what she thought.
The book "My Active Body" tells you all about how to keep fit and healthy and what you should eat throughout the day. It is good because it teaches children that they should eat lots of fruit and vegetables and less junk food. It also teaches them to play more sports and get out more rather than staying in and watching TV. The book is really colourful and has a lot of nice pictures of tasty food and sports stars as well as a cool animated character which tells you healthy advice. The chapters about your body like the one on your muscles have lots of fun facts and experiments. All the chapters have fun and clever titles such as "Brilliant Bones" and "A Stretch in Time". My favourite chapter is definitely "Recipe Time" with the delicious recipe for smoothies. Overall I think this book is excellent and would be suitable for children from 2nd to 6th class. |
